CEWEP Opens Applications for the Ignis Award in Memory of Carsten Spohn

2nd February 2026

For the third time talented students, postgraduates and young professionals in the European waste management sector will be recognised by CEWEP’s Ignis Award in Memory of Carsten Spohn. Applications are now open until 4th May 2026.

CEWEP’s Ignis Award recognises young postgraduates and talented students from European universities and young professionals in the European waste management sector, for their excellence in the work field and relevant research[1] applicable in practice in the area of waste management, particularly Waste-to-Energy (WtE) – incineration with energy recovery. This includes all topics relevant for WtE, e.g. energy recovery, climate impacts, residues recovery, etc.

The winners of the Award will be offered a two-week traineeship in one of the participating European WtE plants. The winners will be able to list their preferences for a WtE plant from the list of volunteering plants. The final placement will be decided taking into account availability.

The abstracts of the winning works will be published on CEWEP’s website, and the winners will also be invited to join the next CEWEP Congress free of charge.
