Registration will open at the beginning of September, with more practical information and a detailed programme to follow soon. The conference day is divided into four sessions, each with a specific focus and interspersed with coffee breaks and a long lunch break to allow plenty of time for networking. The sessions and timing of the conference day are as follows:

8:30 – 9:00 Welcome Coffee

9:00 – 10:30 Welcome and Policy Session

This opening session sets the scene on the evolving legal and policy framework shaping the role of residues in the circular economy. It brings together representatives from EU institutions and industry associations to discuss the fragmented and evolving legislative landscape affecting residues, including material recovery and pollution control. Expect a candid exchange of views on where policy stands today — and where it still needs to go — to fully enable the use of residues in a circular economy.

10:30 – 11:00 Coffee Break

11:00 – 12:30 Recovery in Action

This session moves from policy to practice, showcasing examples of metal and mineral fraction recovery from Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA). Speakers from different EU countries will share technical and environmental perspectives – from testing and standards to navigating legislative frameworks – along with insights from the various stakeholders on bringing IBA applications to life. The session closes with a panel debate between Dutch processors and WtE operators, sharing their views on the current national situation and the impact of the Dutch Circular Materials Plan.

12:30 – 14:00 Lunch Break

14:00 – 15:30 Assessing the value of IBA: from methodology to national practice

This session explores different approaches to assessing the added value of ashes in terms of climate contribution, resource efficiency and sustainability. It looks at how methodologies such as carbon accounting and Environmental Product Declarations can help quantify and communicate the benefits of ash utilisation. A national case study further illustrates how national legislation and assessment frameworks can impact recovery and utilisation rates. The session closes with a panel bringing together perspectives from across Europe to share national practices and experiences.

15:30 – 16:00 Coffee Break

16:00 – 17:30 Expanding Perspectives on Ashes

This session looks ahead at the future of ash management and utilisation, bringing together the latest research, emerging technologies and new environmental challenges shaping the sector. Topics include results from the EU-funded AshCycle project, innovative technology for recovering valuable products from fly ash, and international developments offering new perspectives on ash management.

17:30 – 18:00 Closing Drinks & End
